Mandolinist Jacob Joliffe Brings His New Band to Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall

Sat 10/9 @ 8PM

Mandolin player Jacob Joliffe has been on an upward trajectory since he was a preteen playing in his dad’s bluegrass gospel band. He started at Berklee College of Music in Boston on a full scholarship in 2007, where he worked on mastering jazz, bluegrass and Celtic music.

Then he was drawn away from school (he eventually finished up) to perform across North America and Europe with the roots music band Joy Kills Sorrow. And shortly after they went on hiatus in 2014 he got a call from noted progressive bluegrass band Yonder Mountain String Band which was looking to replaced its departed mandolin player. He spent five years and recorded three albums with that group.

After leaving the group, he formed his own Jacob Joliffe Band to play his original tunes and give him the chance to sing. He released his first album under his own name, Instrumentals Vol. 1, in 2018 while still with Yonder Mountain String Band and today fronts a quartet of pickers, augmenting his violin with acoustic guitar, acoustic bass and fiddle.

The band will be performing at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall as part of its Voices in the Valley Series. Tickets are $23. Get them here.
