The high season at Put-in-Bay is over. But that’s all the more reason for those whose main goal isn’t to drink a lot and pick up someone in a bar to hop on the Miller Ferry and head out to South Bass Island for the Put-in-Bay Oktoberfest weekend.
The festival takes place in a tent in DeRivera Park in downtown Put-in-Bay right on the water. Various island restaurants will be rolling out German-style food such as Bratwurst and schnitzel, sauerkraut balls, cabbage rolls and potato pancakes, apple dumplings and German chocolate cake. The island’s Heineman Winery will have local wines and there’ll be plenty of beer, with polka and other German music to set the mood.
