Nashville, Tennessee-based vocalist/multi-instrumentalist (fiddle, banjo, guitar) Maya de Vitry is originally from rural southern Pennsylvania Lancaster County. She jumped into music as a street musician before co-founding a trio called The Stray Birds, who shared acoustic busking roots, in 2010. They released four albums and two EPs before breaking up in 2018.
De Vitry then struck out on her own, kicking off her solo career with her 2019 album Adaptations, showing off her artful blend of folk, Americana and indie rock. Since then she’s added How to Break a Fall (2020), Violet Light (2022), The Only Moment (2024) and All My Faith (2026), which she self-produced.
“I’d like my music to feel like you are invited into a lush living forest or into a remote river canyon where suddenly you are stripped of not only modern conveniences but also modern distractions,” she says in the promotion for the new album. “Where you can feel the essence of your own humanity and those around you. Where suddenly a stranger’s story becomes interesting, or where you might choose teamwork and problem-solving and creativity over dogma. Where reciprocity and care start to feel more natural than just about anything else.”
She’ll be returning to Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall as part of its Voices in the Valley series to share the new material – and old favorites. Showtime is 8 but doors open at 7 for refreshments in the bar area. Go HERE for tickets.
