Fri 10/23 @ 5-7PM
Clevelanders are very familiar with the art of painter Eileen Dorsey, who is not only a talented artist but a tireless promoter who has found numerous outlets for her work, including murals and all sorts of merch. With a studio at 78thStreet Studios, her doors are almost always open on Third Fridays for visitors to check out her instantly recognizable paintings of forests with a distinctive color palette that makes these trees clearly her “kids.” And she has a passion for trees as well, She’s been part of Cleveland’s tree steward program in Old Brooklyn, helping to plant and care for trees and restore the city’s decimated tree canopy. In 2024, her show “The Neglect of the Urban Tree Canopy” at the Cleveland Botanical Garden addressed the challenged tree canopy which has shrunk from 96% once upon a time to about 18%.
Now Dorsey will be expanding the reach of her mission to draw attention to the area’s tree cover and the importance of expanding it. “The Neglect of the Urban Tree Canopy” will go on view Friday October 23 at the Diane Kidd Gallery at Tiffin University. While they show locations in northeast Ohio, such as its most tree-heavy Cleveland Metroparks and Cuyahoga Valley National Park, they share a mission that reaches far beyond this region.
The show opens with a reception on Friday October 23 from 5-7pm and will be on view through November 30.
