Rocky River’s River Gallery is opening another two-artist show this weekend, called Passing Light. It features ceramic sculpture by Peter Christian Johnson and landscape paintings by Charles Goolsby. As its title suggests, it focuses on a favorite subject of many artists: light and its transformative properties.
“Though working in distinctly different mediums, Johnson and Goolsby each investigate moments of transition—between permanence and impermanence, structure and atmosphere, observation and emotion,” the gallery tells us. “Together, Johnson’s sculptural investigations of form and material and Goolsby’s evocative landscapes create a compelling dialogue about transformation.”
Johnson’s sculptures capture transient moments, with rivers of glazes that flow over the solid structures underneath them, while Goolsby’s oils balance realism and abstraction, stillness and movement, with his sweeping brushwork and muted color palette.
The show opens with a free, public reception on Saturday August 22, and will be on view through October 10.
