One regular feature of summer at Holden Arboretum is its temporary art installations, where an artist or artists creates pieces that are scattered throughout Holden’s expansive landscape.
Its latest exhibit, which opens July 18 and will be on view through Monday, September 7, is called Woven Landscapes. It was created in a series of free public workshops led by Praxis Fiber Workshop, the nonprofit arts organization located in the Waterloo Arts District, which showed them how to create screen prints on fabric. The workshops resulted in more than 400 textile pieces which are on display to enhance their natural setting. And apparently, it keeps getting added to. They say “As the installation grows, it carries forward the energy of its original creation while responding to a new setting, where light, movement, and natural surroundings bring the work to life in a different way.”
The display is free with regular admission, enhancing the experience of visiting Holden Arboretum in the summer.
