Northeast Ohio’s Bent String Band is a sort of local supergroup, featuring some of Cleveland’s best known roots musicians, five players with deep experience in genres such as blues, folk, jazz, classic country, string band music, swing and more. They include singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kari Rutushin, accordionist/keyboard player/vocalist Caroline King, bassist Ray DeForest, violinist Reed Simon, and guitarist Kevin T. Richards, also known as the founder of the nonprofit Roots of American Music. The list of bands they’ve played in is almost endless.
There’s no better way to celebrate America 250 with a Bent String Band performance, loaded with classic tunes that fueled a distinctive diverse American sound as well as their originals influenced by those sounds. They’ll be performing at Night Out in the Parks, at Geauga Park Districts Big Creek Park Amphitheater in Chardon. It’s free, with no registration required, and it’s wheelchair and stroller accessible, so bring the baby, bring great grandma – everyone will enjoy this. It will be moved indoors if the weather is bad.
