Wade Oval Wednesday Dedicates Evening to LGBTQ Pride, with Music by Apostle Jones

Wed 6/24 @ 5:30-8:30PM

Wade Oval Wednesdays in University Circle are celebrating their 20th anniversary and, as is typical for this popular free concert series, they offer a wide variety of the best music northeast Ohio has to offer — no run-of-the-mill tribute bands here.

This week they’re offering one of the area’s most popular bands Apostle Jones. They appeal to a wide range of audiences with their warm-hearted soul- and blues-infused rock & roll performed by an expansive band fronted by vocalist Mikey Silas, supported by his sidekick vocalist Bria Miller. They’re surrounded by a collective of top-level local musicians, including two outstanding guitarists, Jinari Kemet and Michael Haburay, bassist Sebastian Mango, drummer Rashon Blake, keyboard player Owen Broadhead, trumpet player Eric Levine and sax player Charlie Wilson. And sometimes special guests show up! Their repertoire includes their distinctive takes on classic tunes as well as their own songs.

The show will open with lip synch performances, and the evening’s “roaming entertainment” will include Hula Hoops with Gerri and Pickup Stix Stilt Walking. As usual there’ll be at least a dozen vendors offering food ranging from belly-filling dinners to special-occasion snacks (popcorn, cotton candy).

Many of the evenings are dedicated to a specific theme, and this week’s is LGBTQ Pride Night (Mikey Silas from Apostle Jones is openly gay) and its partner for the evening is Plexus LGBT + Allied Chamber of Commerce, which will be there with an information table, along with other community organizations.

No tickets or reservations needed; just bring your blanket or folding chair and enjoy the fresh air and music. Get more info here.
