
Let the cries of “That’s not rock and roll” begin. The Rock Hall has announced the nominees for its 2006 class on inductees, 40 years since it inducted its first group of entrants in 1988. With 17 nominees, spanning a variety of genres, this year’s is indeed a bumper crop.
It includes the Black Crowes, the late Jeff Buckley, Mariah Carey, Phil Collins, Melissa Etheridge, Lauryn Hill, Billy Idol, INXS, the long-overdue-for -induction Joy Division along with its spinoff group New Order, New Edition, Oasis, P!nk, Sade, Shakira, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan. The final inductees will be announced in April.
