Ramp it up! It’s time once again for Ramp Up Peninsula, a festival honoring those onion-like wild leeks that are generally one of the first fresh vegetables to show up in farmers’ markets in the spring and are only in season briefly before they’re gone. So don’t blink and miss them!

There’ll be activities and vendors all up and down Peninsula’s Main Street for this 7th annual iteration of the festival. Vendors will be offering a whole range of products featuring ramps, including teas, oils, spices, jams and jellies, syrups, breads, chocolate ramp leaves, and actual fresh ramps if you’d like to try cooking with them. There’ll also be dozens of artisans and craftspeople with things like soaps and lotions, walking sticks, upcycled jewelry, candles, pottery, notecards and original artwork. You’ll also be able to buy lots of food without ramps in it, from pretzels to pierogis to hot dogs to caramel apples.

Stop in at Boston Township Hall for a series of presentations on farming, ramp foraging and wild edibles, and at G.A.R. Hall, Bronson Church and the Log Cabin Gallery for performances by local bands and musicians all afternoon. There’s even a guided edible plant identification walk on the Towpath Trail, leaving from Boston Township Hall at 3:30pm.

The festival is free and open to all.
