SPACES Gallery Opens Its Last Batch of 2018 Exhibits

Sat 11/17 @ 6-9PM

Note: the original Fri 11/16 opening was pushed back one day to honor local arts & culture writer Nikki Delamotte who was murdered this week. SPACES is urging everyone to attend the benefit for her family at Side Quest on Friday instead.

SPACES opens its new set of shows for the winter this week, with three newly commissioned projects.

Forgetting Lessons by Cleveland artist Sarah Kabot explores how news events mutate as people recall them afterward. It includes photographic collages and a large-scale sculptural installation that include segments of the New York Times and Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Akron animator/filmmaker Dustin Grella offers Animation Hotline, featuring animations of stories contributed by visitors during SPACES’ 40-year anniversary show earlier this year.

And It’s Not What It Looks Like, An Audio Guide to Getting Lost by Cape Town artist James Webb, was created during his October 3-November 21 residency at SPACES. He wandered around Cleveland conducting interviews to look at disorientation and rejuvenation.

All three debut at a public reception Fri 11/16 @ 6-9PM and remain in view through Fri 1/11/19.
