Satirical writer Gary Shteyngart is the author of four books — three novels and his most recent, a memoir, Little Failure (2014); he’s also penned numerous articles for publications such as The New Yorker and The New York Times. The New York-based writer, now 43, has based many of his fictional characters and situations on his own interesting life while his unique background provides plenty of material for a memoir.
He was born in Leningrad , now St. Petersburg, in the Soviet Union, to Jewish parents and emigrated to New York when he was 7. He graduated from Oberlin (’95) before returning to New York to get his masters degree at Hunter College. He’ll be returning to speak at his alma mater at Finney Chapel. It’s free and open to the public.
