New York-based jazz pianist/composer Fred Hersch has gotten too many accolades to count. In his lengthy career, the Cincinnati-born 60-year-old musician has released more than three dozen albums as a bandleader, snagged numerous Grammy nominations, collaborated with a long list of other musicians, and won a Guggenheim Fellowship for his composing.
He’s also an educator who has taught at Berklee College and the New England Conservatory of Music. Younger jazz pianist Jason Moran, a former student of his, said of him, “Fred at the piano is like LeBron James on the basketball court. He’s perfection.”
Hersch will bring his trio, featuring bassist John Hebert and drummer Eric McPherson, who played on his latest album, the Grammy-nominated Floating (Palmetto) to northeast Ohio for four sets at two venues: the Bop Stop on Thursdays and BluJazz+ in Akron on Friday. Tickets are $20.
