As the lead singer for frothy early ’80s pop rockers the Go-Gos, the first all-woman rock band to enjoy sustained success, Belinda Carlisle became known for the giddy, girlish vocals she added to hit songs like “Our Lips Are Sealed” and “We Got the Beat.”
After the Go-Gos broke up in 1985, Carlisle went on to a solo career that yielded some of the most exuberantly joyful pop hits of the late ’80s — irresistible tracks like “Mad About You,” “Heaven Is a Place on Earth” and “Circle in the Sand.” Her career dropped off after the mid ’90s. She left her native Los Angeles for France, and the only new album she’s released in the mid ’90s was 2007’s Voila, a collection of French pop tunes. She’s been busy as an animal rights activist though!
But she’s finally got another album in the works, due out this year, and she’s just embarked upon what is only her second U.S. solo tour in 15 years. It will bring her to Cleveland to perform downtown at Trinity Cathedral as part of the Cathedral Concerts series.
