Once upon a time there was a beautiful beach at East 72nd Street when Gordon Park unfurled unbroken from House down to the shore. Then came the freeway. Land was filled in and the freeway became a barrier between South Gordon Park and Lake Erie, with South Gordon Park mostly empty most of the time.

Now the Cleveland Metroparks has taken charge, and there are plans afoot to undo the damage. And with that talk comes discussion of enhancing and reclaiming the underused swath of the park to the south of the Shoreway,  and provide green space for recreation and relaxation. Learn what’s happening — the park improvements, the new sailing center at East 55th Street, and other projects and neighborhood events nearby — at a Gordon Park community meeting taking place at St. Martin de Porres High School at est 62nd and St. Clair Avenue.

Come at 5:30 for an informal chat with the presenters; the formal program starts at 6. The meeting is free and open to all.
