Once again, the Grog Shop uses a usually dark night — a Tuesday — to present its Great Grog Bakeoff, inspired by the TV show The Great British Bakeoff. And it’s invited local amateur bakers to sign up and present their best work to an audience of paying customers, who get to sample it and vote on the audience choice winner. (There is also a judging panel of professionals they have to impress!)
The theme for this installment a ripe seasonal Ohio fruit, which is at its peak right now. All pastries are required to incorporate in some way. Otherwise, they can be anything a baker can dream up!
The professional judges for this go-round are Kelly Brewer of the Bigmouth Donut Company in Rocky River, which makes its donuts with real, preservative-free ingredients, and Anna Kiss Mauser-Martinez, the executive director of the accessible CSA City Fresh.
