It’s county fair time in Cuyahoga County, and while most of the county’s rural areas have long since been swallowed up by expanding suburbs, it still clings to this tradition (On the other hand, Cook County — Chicago — is the only county in Illinois that doesn’t have a county fair, so be glad we’ve got one!) And yes, there is a 4H club which will have a full schedule of activities and exhibitions at the fair.
There will be rides, junk food and games, of course, along with a head-spinningly diverse lineup of entertainment in numerous areas and stages throughout the fairgrounds: Buford Bear and his Miniature Truck, Fire and Glow Hooping, Jungle Bob’s Animal Show, a magic show, stilt walkers, lots of cover bands including an Elvis Show, a Family Dance Party and more. In the grandstand, there will be many of the fair staples: harness racing, a draft horse pull and of course the Demolition Derby, on the final day of the fair, Sunday afternoon, August 16.
But there’s something else that might be just as big a draw: on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening at 10pm, there’ll be a fireworks and drone show, called “Fair Nights, Enchanted Nights.” Clevelanders love their fireworks; add drones and it should be eye-popping. They share that “Synchronized drones dance in harmony, painting vibrant patterns and spellbinding formations overhead. Against this backdrop, colorful fireworks burst in a symphony of light and sound, creating an unforgettable visual symphony that illuminates the fairgrounds.” That alone is worth the price of admission!
