A long time ago, like 1981, when James Levin founded Cleveland Public Theatre, it planted its flag in the middle of the desolate, impoverished Detroit-Shoreway neighborhood—one that its residents and patrons today wouldn’t recognize. And CPT was ground zero for that change, driving the evolution of Detroit-Shoreway’s Gordon Square into the vibrant neighborhood it is today.
CPT itself has grown, planting its flag in multiple historic buildings in the area, and now it has plans to expand again. It’s making multi-million dollar renovations to the historic Romanian church on its property and well as to its core theater space. If you’re intrigued to see what they’re doing, they’re offering free tours called “Open Home, Open House: A Tour of Existing and Future Buildings,” with key players, including CPT’s executive artistic director Raymond Bobgan and director of development Melissa Waddell. Tours include light appetizers and beverages!
Make a reservation to join the tour at cleveland-public-theatre-presents-open-home-open-house.
There’ll be another tour on May 14.
