Akron Symphony's Next Concert Is a "Program of Hope"

Sat 4/11 @ 7:30PM

The Akron Symphony says that their next concert is a “program of hope,” and from what people I know are telling me, that’s something they really need right now.

The concert opens with a piece called “Wild Geese,” inspired by a poem of the same name published by Mary Oliver in 1986 about accepting yourself with all your flaws and embracing everything life has to offer. The piece, for orchestra and electronics, was written by 46-year-old British composer Anna Clyne and debuted in 2023. That will be followed by a piece that makes an appearance in every concert program of uplifting Americana, Aaron Copland’s q944 ballet music for Appalachian Spring.

The concert closes with Finnish composer Jan Sibelius’ uplifting Symphony No. 2, first performed in 1902 in Helsinki. It takes place, as usual, at the University of Akron’s E.J. Thomas Hall. Get tickets here.
