It’s not a Cleveland summer without a little reggae music. The Music Box Supper Club has just announced the return of its Reggae Sundays, afternoon concerts where the music drifts out onto the packed patio and over the lake, while the bar offers tropical-style drinks to enhance this most warm weather-style of music.
As usual, the series opens (May 31) and closes (September 6) with Cleveland’s best-known reggae act, Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band, welcoming Jones back to the stage as the band begins its busiest season. He’s been carrying the banner for rockin’ reggae since the late 1970s, with I-Tal, First Light and now the P.L.U.S. Band.
Most of the rest of the lineup won’t surprise local reggae fans who’ll find all their longtime favorites including Umojah Nation, the Ark Band, Sun Shade, Jah Messengers, MS. BBC & the Queens, the Flex Crew and Shake (pronounced Shaky) Ground, which features all the other former members of First Light. There are a few new names as well: Morgantown, WV’s Tom Batchelor Band, new local reggae band Yard Star and Montego Bay’s T.Natty, described as a “talented new voice in the reggae scene.”
All Reggae Sunday concerts start at 4pm. They are free. Get full lineup and dates here.
