Akron’s Millennial Theatre Project Presents “Say It Loud” Addressing Racial/Social Justice

Thu 5/25 @ 7:30PM

It’s unclear exactly what the Akron-based Millennial Theatre Project’s production titled Say It Loud is about. The company, which aims to attracts younger people to theater both as performers and audience, calls it “an intimate performance based on live experiences of Ohio residents.” Which could be literally anything.

But it seems to have emanated from the recent controversies that have come to light surrounding the police killing in Akron of Jayland Walker, who was shot dozens of times by eight officers following a traffic stop, leading to protests and even the cancellation of such major events as the city’s July 4 festival. “All performances followed by a town-hall discussion around racial and social justice issues,” certainly suggest that, as does the production’s clenched fist logo.

They’ve been performing it around Akron at places in the community such as Summit ArtSpace and Jilly’s Music Room. Now they’re bringing it home to the Akron Civic Theatre, where the company was formed, to present it at the intimate Knight Stage.

Admission is free. Get more information here.
