Heights Art’s Ekphrastacy programs take place once during the run of each of the shows in its gallery. Led by the Heights Poet Laureate (currently Michelle R. Smith), a group of guest poets read work they have written responding to the pieces in the show. For the upcoming event, guest poets Eddie Macak, Quinn McGuire and Abigail Raley will respond to work in the fall exhibitions.
The show is in the main gallery is called Emergent. In it, once again, the gallery features the work of early-career artists in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, sculpture, textiles, glass ns mixed media. They include Romy Anderson, Scout Bach, Ryan Cermak, Layle Davis-Branner, Emma Gatzulis, Annie O’Brien, Gabs Rataiczak and Jazzee Rozier. In the Spotlight Gallery, Heights Arts is featuring the work of U.S.-based Nigerian painter Olatunbosun Akinyelure, whose work explores African identity, cultural memory, and the richness of everyday life.
Some of the exhibiting artists will also be on hand to talk about their work. Heights Arts warns that the event is popular so come early if you want a seat. It’s free and open to all.
