The Akron Symphony launches its 2026-27 season with a big dose of fierce and fiery music, most of whch will be familiar to even audience members not well-versed in classical music.
It opens with the Overture from the 1829 opera William Tell by Gioachino Rossini, best known to most people as the Lone Ranger theme music. That will be followed by Joe Hisaishi’s music from the Studio Ghibli’s 2004 animated film Howl’s Moving Castle and “Dance of the Hours” from Walt Disney’s 1940 film Fantasia. It concludes with Hector Berlioz’s raging, passionate, drama-filled Symphonie Fantastique, which debuted in 1830. The semi-autobiographical film tells the story of an artist in the throes of despair and opium addiction because of his unrequited love for a woman. It includes hallucinations and satanic visions. Should be a fun evening! Go HERE for tickets.
