Sat 8/29 @ 5:30PM
Cleveland’s Karamu House has a history as the country’s oldest Black theater, but it’s also got a vibrant present and it’s looking to the future as well. But in order to have a future it’s got to raise money, so it’s hosting a benefit this weekend to help out with that.
An Evening with Vanessa Rubin will feature a concert in Karamu’s Jelliffe Theater by the beloved local jazz vocalist, along with her trio of supporting musicians: pianist Brandon McCune, bassist Kenny Davis and drummer Jerome Jennings. She’ll undoubtedly draw on her vast repertoire of jazz standards.
The event starts at 5:30 with a reception featuring cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The concert starts at 7pm. It’s followed by a post-concert dessert and coffee reception. The receptions will give Karamu supporters the chance to mingle with other supports and perhaps share their favorite memories of Karamu.
