The mission of the nonprofit Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is to provide legal assistance to people who can’t afford a lawyer in civil cases such as tenant-landlord disputes. It also offers legal clinics at community centers and libraries so people can seek advice on issues they’re facing that could be addressed in court — if they could afford it.
Each summer, Legal Aid hosted a fundraiser called Jam for Justice at the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern. It commandeers both the Ballroom and Tavern stages for a full evening of music with six bands in the ballroom and five in the tavern. Many of the bands include judges, lawyers, law students and law school faculty members in their lineups, moonlighting as rock stars to help the legal rock stars who devote their careers to those who don’t hav money to spare to resolve their disputes.
Music starts on the Ballroom stage at 5:20 with Razing the Bar, followed by the No Name Band (6pm), No Way Sis (6:40), Luke Lindberg & the Hung Jury (7:20), the Tortfeasers (8) and Faith & Whiskey (8:40). In the tavern Six Sometimes Seven will play at 5:40, Hayden Gilbert and the Ruckus at 6:20, Out of Order at 7, U4U at 7:40 and State Road at 8:20.
Stephanie Haney & Delanté Spencer Thomas will Emcee the evening, and Brad Wolfe of Brad Wolfe Law will act as DJ. Go HERE for tickets.
