Fri 8/14-Sun 8/16
Late last year, Judie Vegh and Mandy Cavano opened their new business in Gordon Square called Girls’ Joint. Despite the name it’s not a dispensary and sells no weed: it was designed to offer lifestyle accessories, original art and other handmade gift-type items intended to appeal especially (although not exclusively) to women, and it planned to host regular events at the shop.
Somehow the city got involved, claiming it was a “smoke shop” and while investigating and offering the women contradictory explanations of what they needed to do, claimed it lacked the occupancy permit needed to be open. Unfortunately, while jumping through each new hoop in their path, they were forced to shut down the shop for four months.
Luckily, they have now been able to reopen and they’re celebrating their Grand Reopening Weekend August 14-16. Throughout the weekend, they’ll have special sales, including 10% off on everything, 20% of My Bud Vase pieces, art posters and grift wrap, goodie bags while supplies last, a hidden chair hunt every hour for prizes or a discount, and special deals with some of their neighboring business (Doinks, Superelectric Pinball Parlor) if you show them your Girls’ Joint receipt. They also have a promotion/ticket giveaway with the Capitol Theatre for their current film The Wrong Girls.
Hours are noon-7pm Wednesday and Thursday, noon-8pm Friday and Saturday, noon-6pm Sunday.
