The 1941 noir film The Maltese Falcon, starring Humphrey Bogart, is considered one of the classics of the genre whose dark, black-and-white photography emphasizes its themes of crime and the underworld, betrayals, people who aren’t what they seem, corruption and murder. At the same time, radio drama as wildly popular, prior to the widespread introduction of television in the 50s. It was an ideal medium for imagining the tangled web the characters wove, with only their dialogue for prompts.
Cleveland ensemble Radio on the Lake specializes in presenting radio plays live. And the next reading they’re present is an adaptation of The Maltese Falcon. You’ll have to follow closely to grasp the complicated plot and the multiple identities and motivations of its cast of characters as they pursue a valuable statue.
