Garaj Mahal Comes to Cleveland to Jam

Thu 8/20 @ 7:30PM

There’s one genre of rock music that has been growing generation after generation of avid fans for 69 years with seemingly no end in sight: jam. While you’ll sometimes run into a jam band that goes “Oh, we don’t want to be labeled that way,” they’re just stupid. Putting “jam band” on your flyer or in your ad is good for additional tickets sold to people who’ve never heard of you.

One band that’s not that stupid is Garaj Mahal. They proudly tag their website “Jamband Music.” They say, “Experience the best Jamband music live at Garaj Mahal. Get ready to groove to the funky, rockin’, jazzy, and World music beats of our talented musicians. Fans return to experience the band again and again because they know they will always hear something new and progressive from four first-class musicians.”

If you’ve got it and a certain cadre of very devoted fans love it, why not flaunt it? And Garaj Mahal has been doing so since in came together in 2000.

Those four musicians are guitar/sitar virtuoso Fareed Haque, bassist Kai Eckhardt, keyboard player Oz Ezzeldin and drummer Greg Fundis. Together they bring more musical styles than you can count on your fingers, to create a style they describe as “a convergence of jazz-style improvisation, mystical Middle-Eastern atmospheres, and danceable American funk.:

They’ll be performing at the Irishtown Bend taproom. And yes, you can tape the show. Go here for tickets.
