Exhibit by Photographer/Filmmaker Cynthia Penter Focuses on Dance and Movement

Fri 8/14 @ 5-8PM

Cynthia Penter is a well-known Northeast Ohio artist/educator, whose work includes photography, video and film. She’s also organized video/film fests and curated exhibits. Her wide-ranking practice encompasses straightforward and experimental work, which has been seen in countless galleries and film screenings. (She’s tireless about showing her work.)

Now you can see a critical mass of her work when her show, In Motion and (re) Pose: A Retrospective, opens at BAYArt’s Sally J. Otto Gallery. Its focus is dance photos, loops and videos she’s taken exploring movement through numerous collaborations with Northeast Ohio dance ensembles over the past forty years. The show also includes dance photos by David Perelman-Hall, Denyce Renee, Janet Century and Gina Washington.

At the free, public opening reception on Friday August 14, there will be a live performance by dance ensemble The Birds Who Walk at Night. And on August 29 from 2-4pm, there will be a screening of Penter’s experimental dance films. The show remains on view through September 12.
