Last year, Downtown Cleveland presented a series of free Wednesday concerts on Public Square, featuring some of the area’s best bands. They’re doing it again, and this year they’ve added opening acts to bills. They feature a wide range of music from rock & roll to blues, smooth jazz to funk, indie rock to Americana.
They kick things off with a really big band: the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra which showcases classic big band music along with music in big-band style written and arranged by its members who include a who’s who of the best jazz musicians in northeast Ohio across generations. And the opening act is one of CJO’s musicians, pianist Jackie Warren, who is probably best known in the area for her Latin jazz collaborations with band leader/timbales player Sammy DeLeon.
There’ll be food trucks and bar on the square, plus plenty of room to dance on the lawn.
The concerts run all the way through September 30. Go here for a full schedule of bands.
