The Ohio Scottish Games & Celtic Festival once again takes over the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in Berea with two days full of activities for people of all ages and interests.
The Calling of the Clans on Friday evening signals its start, when you can begin to partake of events such as performances by Irish and highland dancers, bagpipe bands, harp-and-fiddle ensembles and Celtic bands; athletic contests including caber toss, hammer throwing and Stones of Strength; and demonstrations of jousting, glass blowing, axe throwing, haggis throwing, falconry, and border collies herding. (They’ve been used to keep Canada geese out of decorative ponds!) There will be Irish and Scottish dog breeders, and British cars and motorcycles to check out as well.
If you want to delve into the culture as a participant, the festival includes workshops on bagpiping, drumming, highland dancing and whiskey tasting—adults only! But there’s a “Wee Ones” area with special activities for kids.
Things wind down with the Twilight Tattoo on Sunday. For a full schedule of events and offerings go here.
