Chagrin Valley Little Theatre Presents Play About the Lingering Impact of the Holocaust

Fri 6/5-Sun 6/21

Chagrin Valley Little Theatre is known for presenting relative standard community theater fare — Ken Ludwig comedies, musicals, jukebox plays. But its next offering, while still containing comic elements, has a serious underpinning, as its name suggests.

In John Herman Shaner’s Long After Crystal Night involves a Jewish family in Beverly Hills in 1984, confronted by the issue of whether to protest an American Nazi Party national convention. This leads to conversations about the family’s own history, their assimilation into U.S. culture and society, their own beliefs and what they are or would be willing to sacrifice. The play’s title references the 1938 Kristallnacht, when the Nazis swept into Jewish neighborhoods in Germany, destroyed homes, businesses, synagogues and Jewish cemeteries and arrested thousands of people, one of the first major actions toward the Holocaust.

It runs June 5-21 on CVLT’s main stage with performances Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30pm and Sundays @2pm on June 14 and 21. by John Herman Shaner, weekends from June 5 through June 21, 2026.  For tickets go to CVLT.org and call 440-247-8955.
