The nonprofit Cleveland Rocks: Past, President Future, based in North Collinwood’s Waterloo Arts District, has been presenting its monthly musicians workshops for several years, with industry professionals doling out free advice to musicians on how to advance their careers.
Recently they’ve expanded that and presented a program called “Music Industry Basics” at The Sixty6 at the Midtown Collaboration Center, offering informal tutorials on topics such as the technical aspects of performing, networking and handling your business as a working musician in a venue with a food & drink menu to enjoy with soaking up knowledge.
The next event there will focus on an important, if boring, aspect of the business crucial to songwriters: royalties, credits and copyrights. It will share how to register to collect royalties and why album credits are important. The speaker is songwriter/musician/producer Trent Thomas who has worked on major label projects and as a songwriter/publisher with Warner/Chappell. He is also an adjunct professor of music business at Cuyahoga Community College. The discussion will be moderated by CRPPF’s David Kennedy.
