May Musicians Workshop Focuses on How to Book and Promote Your Shows

Mon 5/18 @ 7PM

Each month, the nonprofit Cleveland Rocks: Past Present Future, founded by Beachland Ballroom co-owner Cindy Barber, presents a musicians’ workshop at its Cleveland Rocks Shop on Waterloo Road.  The workshops cover topics that will help musicians gain knowledge useful in their career, whether it’s choosing the right mic or booking shows.

This month the topic is “Stairway to Success: Gig More. Earn More,” where you’ll garner some practical tips on how to book and promote your shows. The speaker this month is Rick Iacoboni, who has been working as a solo acoustic guitarist for more than 20 years, playing more than 2,000 events. He recalls being laid off from his major marketing job in 2004 just as the band he was in was running out of steam.

“I had zero income and three kids and a wife to support,” he says. “Rather than feel sorry for myself, I had an idea: Why not apply my marketing experience into building a solo event business? Through aggressive marketing and perseverance, I have played over 2,200 engagements, mostly on weekends! Now it’s time to give back. I would like to share my success with other musicians facing similar challenges in achieving their dreams.”

After his talk, four local musicians will perform two songs apiece as part of the 2×4 songwriter showcase The workshop is free and open to all.
