NEWS: Micro Theater, Returning in September, Looking for Performers Now

Through June 15

What is Micro Theater? It’s an event that features a variety of very short performances all taking place at the same time in proximity. Each runs multiple times giving people a chance to graze and discover. “It’s fast. It’s chaotic,” the organizers of Micro Theater CLE share, and it sure is. We saw its first edition at the Brownhoist in 2024 and figuring out what was happening where was confusing. We abandoned our attempt to see the things we thought we’d signed up for and just wandered around, running into things at random or acting on tips from people who’d already seen a performance.

Since then, organizers Mindy Herman, Samantha Cocco and Jonathan Morgan have put on Micro Theater events in Tremont, at the annual BorderLight Theater Festival, at Ingenuity Fest and at the Hermit Club. Now they’re proposing to do another popup festival in Tremont on September 11 and 12, doing short pieces around the neighborhood. And they’re looking for submissions.

“We’re looking for short, bold, weird, funny, intimate, scrappy performances that are 15 minutes or less.,” they say. “Pieces don’t need to be fully fleshed out—just offer us something exciting you want to create. Come in with a full team, or just an idea. We can help match you with directors, actors, and collaborators, or if you’ve been wanting to try directing or performing, this is a great place to jump in.”

It can be a short play of any type, a comedy sketch, a magic performance, a clown or burlesque act, dance, performance art — just about anything. Deadline to submit is June 15. Go here for more information on submitting.
