The Cleveland Arts Prize celebrates outstanding creative work and cultural leadership in Northeast Ohio. Established in 1960 by the Women’s City Club, it is the nation’s oldest municipal arts prize. It gives out Discipline Prizes (for artists at different career stages), Special Prizes (for service, advocacy, and leadership), Verge Fellowships for early-career artists, and scholarships for students.
For 2025, the winners were announced in August. The Discipline Prizes include: highly lauded poet and writer Ali Black (Literature) as Emerging Artist, Grammy-winning classical guitarist Jason Vieaux (Music) as Mid-Career Artist, and CIA Alumnus, painter and muralist Mark E. Howard (Visual Art) as the Lifetime Achievement winner — each receiving $10,000. The Special Prizes for 2025 honor architectural photographer Jennie Jones (Special Citation), past Executive Director of LAND Studio Greg Peckham (Robert P. Bergman Prize), and Founder and Artistic Director of Kulture Kids, Robin Pease (Martha Joseph Prize for Distinguished Service to the Arts), and Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation (Barbara S. Robinson Prize for the Advancement of the Arts),
