Cleveland’s political/civic landscape should be undergoing some changes following this year’s civic elections in November, when city of Cleveland residents will vote in mayoral and city council races. Right now, it’s looking like Mayor Justin Bibb isn’t facing too many headwinds in his bid for a second term. But things could get heated on the city council side, where the number of wars has been reduced from 17 to 15, due to population loss, and two council people, Kerry McCormack who has represented downtown and the near west side, and Jenny Spencer, representing Gordon Square and areas to the west, have said they’re not running for reelection. Lots of new candidates have juped into those races, and other ward races as well.
This will be the topic of the next City Club/Happy Dog program called “Happy Dog Takes on… Cleveland’s new political ground.” Several reporters who cover local government will offer their insights including Signal Cleveland’s Nick Castele, Axios reporter Sam Allard, and Ideastream reporter/producer Abbey Marshall.
The program is free and open to all. Registration isn’t required, but it helps planning if you register. The Happy Dog probably won’t run out of tater tots if you don’t!
