Two-Character Drama Closes Ensemble’s 2022-23 Season

Fri 5/26- Sun 6/11

Loy A. Webb’s 2019 one-act play The Light is a 70-minute two-character drama, one of those in which surfaces are broken through and truths are mined. The synopsis says, “Not very marriage proposal goes as planned. The Light introduces Rashad and Genesis on what should be one of the happiest days of their lives, but their joy quickly unravels when ground-shifting accusations from the past resurface in this gripping two-character drama. Can their relationship survive the growing divide between them over who — and what — to believe?”

You know these are very savvy, verbal characters because the setting is described “a condo in Hyde Park, Chicago.” There’s probably no more appropriate place to put two upscale, intellectual Black characters. Those characters will be enacted by two of the area’s best-known and most respected actors, Ananias J. Dixon and Nicole Sumlin. Both are members of Actors Equity and have performed at theaters all over the region.

The play is next up on the schedule of Ensemble Theatre at the Notre Dame College Performing Arts Center, concluding its 2022-23 season. It runs Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30pm and Sundays @ 2pm through Sunday June 11. Get tickets here.
