Sculptor Fred Gearhart Hosts His Annual Backyard Open Studio & Sculpture Garden

Sat 5/27 & Sun 5/28 @ 1-7PM

Regular gallery visitors have likely seen Cleveland artist Fred Gearhart’s diverse sculptural work, mostly in stone, but also in wood and cast bronze. While he’s been a serious artist for decades, following his retirement as a high school history teacher, he devoted most of his time to his work, which he produces in his garage studio behind his house.

That house and studio — and the large garden space surrounding them — are the site of his annual open studio, which he’s held on Memorial weekend for 15 years. He’s turned his yard into a sculpture garden where you can see, and purchase, the vast range of his work, nestled between the plants and springing up from the hostas. The pieces range from small vases to giant figures suitable for placement in a two-story entrance hall but most of the 200 or so works are very affordable.

Everyone is invited to come browse, hang out, visit his studio as well as his garden and chat with him about his work. The open house, at 1609 Rydalmount Road, takes place rain or shine. It’s free and open to the public.
