Alison Alsup, from central Ohio, and Ronald Jackson III, from northeast Ohio, are both juniors at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Both spent time living in Alaska’s remote Bristol Bay area working in its salmon canneries.
That inspired the work that comprises their show Alaska: Working in Bristol Bay, which opens at Current in 78th Street Studios with a reception this Friday April 1 @ 6-10pm, featuring drawings, paintings and sculptural works. “Artwork shows the remote beauty of the rustic environment, as well as the tough work conditions within the processing plant, giving viewers a peek into the bay’s fishing industry,” they say.
After the opening, you can see the show on Fridays and Saturdays @ 11am-3pm, as well as at the closing reception Saturday April 30 @ 2-10pm. At the closing reception, the artists will be doing at live drawing event.
