City Club Forum Looks at Why LGBTQ Visibility Matters

Thu 6/17 @ noon

Some people may wonder, what’s up with all this LGBTQ+ Pride, events such as Black Trans Lives Matter, and an increasing number of LGBTQ+ films, TV shows, books and art? Why are they making such a fuss about their sexual orientation/gender identity now?

Find out at a City Club forum titled “Why LGBTQ+ Visibility Matters.” It features Dr. Ken Schneck, humorist, author, Baldwin Wallace professor and founder of the digital weekly LGBTQ+ publication The Flame, which covers al of Ohio, and arts consultant Deidre McPherson, founder of Sistah Sinema which presents films by and about queer women of color. They’ll discuss the importance of offering accurate depictions of LGBTQ+ people of all ages, races and identities, especially at a time when politicians have cynically decided to make transgender people the next scar villains to gin up hate based on misconceptions.

Lauren R. Welch, marketing and communications manager of the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, moderates. Questions for the online forum can be tweeted to @TheCityClub or texted to 330-541-5794.
