Artists Respond to Pandemic in New Show at Ursuline Wasmer Gallery

The digital art show is quickly becoming a new thing, and the submission process is a lot more nimble than submitting and delivering physical works of art. For instance, Ursuline College’s Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery has announced a fully digital exhibit, on view Friday April 23-May 22 at wasmer-gallery, with all work submitted online and all professional and emerging artists living in the U.S. eligible to participate.

The show’s theme is the pandemic itself. Self Portraits: Artists Respond to COVID-19 invited artists to submit self-portraits in any media that in some way reflect the artist’s feelings about the pandemic. Artists were able to submit up to the photos of their artwork.

“We want to make certain we continue providing the public with uplifting, soul-stirring exhibits, even as the situation with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to change our lives daily and has caused us to close our doors,” said Wasmer gallery director Anna Arnold in a press release. “We are establishing a virtual art gallery to continue providing dynamic and provocative art exhibits.”

The show is on view — online, of course — at ursuline.edu/wasmer-gallery.
