Tri-C Presents Jazz Great Branford Marsalis at Playhouse Square

Thu 10/10 @ 7:30PM

There’s no way that sax player/composer Branford Marsalis wasn’t going to become a successful jazz musician. The oldest son of New Orleans jazz musician/educator Ellis Marsalis, he heads a veritable dynasty of jazz greats: his younger brothers Wynton, Delfeayo and Jason.

Each has enjoyed his own successful career and particular path. Branford’s ran through Berklee Collage, and the bands of jazz legends Art Blakey, Clark Terry and Lionel Hampton. He had a longtime collaboration with Sting, often performed with the Grateful Dead and for three years in the early ’90s led the Tonight Show Band under host Jay Leno.

But much of his focus in the last couple of decades has been on his own Branford Marsalis Quartet, formed in 1988. But he’s also a producer, an educator and has his own record label which has released albums by numerous jazz artists.

Spend an evening with the Branford Marsalis Quartet at the Ohio Theatre as part of the Tri-X Presents series. Tickets are $25-$45.
