Jazz Trumpet Player Curtis Taylor, NE Ohio Native, Comes Home to BOP STOP with New Album

Jazz trumpet player Curtis Taylor has come a long way from his childhood in Bedford, Ohio, where he began studying his instrument at the age of 10. As he says in his bio, “One night after seeing a great concert featuring trumpeters Jon Faddis and Steve Enos, Taylor was so inspired that he decided then and there that he wanted a career in music.”

Those gentlemen can proudly point to what their inspiration has led to. Taylor majored jazz studies at Michigan State University and earned a masters degree in music at Rutgers University prior to launching his career as a professional musician. He’s now based in southern California, He’s performed with pianist Cyrus Chestnutt at Carnegie Hall and toured Europe with saxophonist James Carter. He’s now based in Southern California where he played on jazz vocalist Gregory Porter’s Grammy-winning 2013 album Liquid Spirit.

Now he’s got a new album of his own, titled Snapshot, and he’s returning to northeast Ohio to share the music with his hometown. He’ll be performing at the BOP STOP with an ensemble of outstanding young local jazz musicians: keyboard player Theron Brown, drummer Zaire Darden and bassist Jordan McBride. Tickets are $20.
