If dance is an expression of the human spirit, then it is best expressed by people of all abilities. That is according to the Dancing Wheels Company & School. Considered one of the premier arts and disabilities organizations in the United States, Dancing Wheels’ mission is to educate, advocate and entertain through compelling, innovative dance.
Dancing Wheels’ 38th Annual Gala called Reverse * Reboot * Reveal! is happening at Playhouse Square’s Allen Theatre on June 14. It will feature the works of three internationally recognized disabled choreographers. This exciting event will bring together a wide and eclectic audience of dance supporters and those who champion the diversity and equity in the arts. We’ve got Dancing Wheels’ founder, Mary Verdi-Fletcher (pictured above), with us on this episode to find out more about the dance company and what to expect at the gala event.
Also in this episode, we feature a number events happening in conjunction with Cuyahoga50 – community events, exhibits, performances and conferences taking place during the anniversary week of the Cuyahoga River fire, June 19-23.
Music is provided by Cleveland’s Orange Animal (pictured above), which is celebrating the release of their new album, No Song Sick Hearts, now available on iTunes, Spotify and CDBaby. You catch them live, June 8th at Stella’s Music Club, when they will be playing with Frontier and Blue Collar Coalition. And Davey Squires (pictured below), Akron singer, keyboardist and enthusiastic local music supporter.
