Chicago’s Eclectic Claudettes Return to Town to Play Mahall’s

Tue 6/25 @ 8PM

Pianist Johnny Iguana, who founded the Chicago-based Claudettes, has deep roots in the city’s blues scene. He’s performed with legends like Buddy Guy, Junior Wells and James Cotton; meanwhile, the Claudettes polished their purposefully unpolished style playing in funky suburban bars.

It’s led to a sound that gleefully mixes eras and genres: rockabilly, punk, classic soul, vintage burlesque house jazz and piano-driven jump blues all bubble up in their cauldron of sound produced by Iguana, vocalist Berit Ulseth, bassist/vocalist Zach Verdoorn and drummer Michael Caskey.

The band’s been in these parts fairly frequently, but they always have something new to show off. Last year, they released Dance Scandal at the Gymnasium!, with Black Keys producer Mark Neill, and they’ve already recorded a followup. Expect a good time when they perform at Mahall’s 20 Lines, with local indie rocker quartet Dire Wolf and singer/songwriter Taylor Lamborn.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 day of show.
