Master Lutenist Paul O’Dette Performs in Shaker Heights

Sat 2/23 @ 7:30PM

Paul O’Dette began his musical journey playing guitar in a rock band in his native Columbus, Ohio. But that’s far from where he ended up. The 65-year-old musician began to transcribe lute music for guitar, and soon began playing the lute itself (along with other Baroque period instruments) and became a noted specialist in lute and Early Music in general. He’s made over 100 recordings, garnered several Grammy nominations, and is professor of lute and director of Early Music at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester. He’s generally considered on the top experts in his field.

When he performs at Shaker Heights’ Plymouth Church UCC for the Cleveland Classical Guitar Society he’ll play a lute with 10 pairs of strings, as he explores how music evolved from the late Renaissance into the Baroque era. He’ll play music by Nicolas Vallet, Ennemond Gautier, Giovanni Girolamo Kapsberger, Robert Johnson and Daniel Bachelar.

General admission tickets are $22; gold circle tickets are $40; seniors are $18; students are $10.
