Few bands have been kicking around the area and rocking as hard as Lords of the Highway, founded by guitarist/vocalist Dennis A. Bell in 1992 and put out its first release Take That Mother Trucker (on cassette, back when that was a real thing and not some hipster move) in 1994.

Along with the contemporaneous Cowslingers (1990-2003), they fueled a tiny but energetic cowpunk scene, playing boozy rockabilly mixed with honky tonk-style country. Or as they describe it “hillbilly punk rock that knocks ya flat, runs ya over, and doesn’t look back.”

There have, of course, been member changes over the years, although the group has soldiered on through the years as a trio with Bell in the lead. For a while now, the group has also included Matt Sauer on drums and vocals and Action Al Pizzino on upright bass and vocals. And there have been many more releases — singles, EPs, CDs, DVDs. And there’s a new album hitting this week called More Rock Than Billy. Does that mean they’ll be jacking up the energy level when they introduce it at the Beachland Tavern?

Admission is $8. The Legendary Hucklebucks open.
