Experimental Jazz Trio Togishi Celebrates New Release at the BOP STOP

Sun 2/24 @ 7PM

Cleveland-based trio Togishi’s music is an intriguing mish-mash of experimental sounds including electronic noise, avant-garde jazz, progressive rock and contemporary classical music. It features three musicians well known in the area’s experimental/improvisational scene — Mike Sopko on guitar and electronics, Joe Tomino on drums and electronics, and Dan Wenninger on saxophones and hulusi, a type of Chinese reed instrument — who came together in 2017 as Togishi after having participated in improvisational shows together. They describe their sounds as “both visceral and contemplative.”

They’re now putting out a self-titled release on Auasca Records, which will be available on cassette and in digital format. They’ll mark the occasion at the BOP STOP. Tickets are $10.
