PBS Kids’ Show “Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood” Comes Alive On Stage at Playhouse Square

Thu 1/10 @ 6:30PM

The popular PBS kids’ show Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, which debuted in 2012, opens with the titular character arriving on set and changing into his sneakers and cardigan sweater.

Sound familiar? It should! Daniel Tiger is channeling the legendary Fred Rogers, whose longtime show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood, featured the character of Daniel S. Tiger, now said to be the younger Tiger’s father.

Many of the other characters on the new show are sons and daughters of the original characters (who are also seen on the show) and, the show’s mood and theme continue the legacy of Fred Rogers, entertaining kids while encouraging them to be kind, helpful, generous, understanding and accepting of others and self-accepting.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood LIVE! takes the show on the road, presenting its animated characters on stage in a 90-minute performance. In the new show King for a Day, with copious new music and surprise guests, Daniel Tiger and the audience learn what it takes to be King.

The show arrives at Playhouse Square’s State Theatre this week. Tickets are $33-$76.
